Hot Rod OM617

I recall reading somewhere these engines are pretty tough however, its rare to find someone who has found the limits of the turbo OM617.
I've heard there capable of 190hp with stock internals. Is that true?

What ever happened to the member here that had the $200 300K mile 300D, SD he was taking to the limit.

I just wonder if he found it?

...hot rod a diesel, that's funny. They're slow, smoky and smelly --why bother?

I would love to drive that car the finns are building......because actually owning it is out of the question.

There was a member on here or the "other" board. "twiztedbenz" or something like that. He was running like 20psi+ with propane injection. Maybe he blew it up.

190 horse

i would think that 190 hp would be possible with increased boost with reasonable reliability, but i wouldnt want to tow trailer with it, (sustiained load). you would need possibly an intercooler and at high limits perhaps water injection or such.

personally mine are all old and i am just tickled pink if they do the stock hp.

I've got 303,000 on my baby. As far as I know the motor and tranny are untouched. I didn't hesitate to install the boost controller. She runs like a top and is definately faster than a stock 300SD!

I think it was an S600, wasn't it? Weren't they the only factory armor models?

I'm not sure if I should be installing the controller on mine yet. My turbo shaft has a good amount of play. It gives me 9.5lbs currently.
