Branching out....
I've got a 240 (W123) with a seized motor. Anybody tried putting a four-banger from a W201 into a 123?

Bany James,
A four banger motor? I thought motors had armatures, field coils, brushes and electrons, not bangers. P E H |

It can be done!
I was going to get the plate "5banger" for mine ;) |
Custom exhaust? Motor mounts? Any idea how difficult the retrofit process is? Bell housing? Will the driveline length be different?

The 4-cylinder 2.3 liter engine was available in the W123 chassis for non-US markets. The car was labelled as 230E / CE / TE.

123 variants
there are a few of the 230es around. i saw one here in lafayette. you might be able to locate one in a salvage yard or with body damage and or rusty or such. all the little things such as listed above will drive you nuts if you dont have two complete cars to start with.
better to find a good used 240 engine, make your car run, sell it and buy one like you are wanting. my $.02 |

A friend of mine has a 230CE with a 102 engine (I think it is anyways). Some of you might recognize his car.
Did they ever put the 190's 2.2 4 cyl diesel in a 123? I was under the assumption that it was never made. |
Yeah, the 2.2L diesel was the motor I had in mind. There was one on eBay for cheap, and it got me thinking.... What's the MB designation for that motor?
