OM601 injector socket
I want to send out the injectors on a 1984 190D 2.2 (260,000km) for rebuild. What size deep socket is required for these OM601 injectors?
I did a search but could not find info on the OM601 injectors. Is it the same 27mm used for the OM617's? Thanks in advance. 1984 190D 2.2 (260,000km) 1992 300E (242,000km) |

Most likely it is. The 27 mm deep socket has worked for me on my 603 as well as the 617 & 616.

I use a Powerbuilt 1 1/16" deep socket that I picked up from Kragen. It's designed to remove a GM oil pressure sensor unit, but works perfectly for MB diesel injectors.

I am surprised at how rarely this engine is mentioned in this forum. There must not be very many of them around.

Thanks to all for your replies.
I will now be able to send out my injectors for rebuild and balancing. $65 CAD each at an authorized Bosch facility. |

Knowing the injectors on the 601 fit 27mm socket, what would be the main advantage to getting an actual injector socket versus the plain deep socket? I noticed that Snap-On sells a 27mm exclusively for MB & VW for $43.00 CAD. Of course a deep socket is only 10 bucks. In your experiences, is the injector socket worth the extra 30 bucks?

Plain deep sockets might not have enough clearance at the internal walls for the injector return line fittings. As I mentioned earlier, the Powerbuilt socket from Kragen/Autozone/other typical autoparts chain stores will work perfectly, and is inexpensive.

What speedy said. The more expensive deep sockets have beefier internal structure. Forget an impact socket. I used the cheapest deep socket I found at Home Depot. IIRC it was $5-6.
