Water Drains on a wagon hatch

Hey all, As I have posted before I have water collecting on the inside of the hatch on my 82 300TD, and it all pours out when I open the door. I am wondering if there are supposed to be any drains on the bottom of the hatch to let the water out. Also I have found 5 holes large enough to fit two fingers in on the top of the hatch outside of the rubber door seal. Are these holes supposed to be drains holes, or are they supposed to be plugged. Thanks much for any help.

Hey Biodiesel300TD

I have a '80 300TD and will check tonight when my girlfriend get home about the 5 large holes and see if mine are plugged. I see you live in Eugene we live near Elmira.

The holes on the top of my wagon hatch are not plugged. However, my rear hatch also drips/pours water when I raise it after a rain.

plugs

i too have the same problem, the holes on mine are not plugged either, but if you look carefully the appear to be on the inside of the seal, look at them with a flashlight as you gently close the hatch they will set right on the seal, see picture number 1 for the holes, the other pictures are of the wagon it is a euro 1985 230 TE, i have been meaning to post some pictures here, but had not until now.

Well my girlfriend just got home with "my" car, OK whom I kidding it's her car but she lets me drive it once a week . The holes on top of the hatch are not plugged, but our hatch doesn't fill up with water. Sorry couldn't help, good luck with finding the fix.

Having some water issues with my '87 300TD I read your thread. I just went out to confirm to myself that mine does not have the same holes. Mine doesn't. If you put a thin coat of sunroof lube or similar on the edge of the holes and then close the lift-door would it show you if the fixed seal is completely covering the holes to seal water from infiltrating? Just a thought . . .

Have any of you other leaky hatch folks had any luck stopping the leak by changing the rear window seal?

rear hatch leak

well we have had quite a bit of rain the past few days and my hatch is not leaking any more, over the summer i had the car painted, and replaced a lot of items, the one thing i didn't replace was the rear hatch seal, but i did replace the window glass and the seal. i am not sure if this alone fixed the leak because i also replaced the seal around the release handle. i believe the handle was where the leak was. hope this may help some of you with the leaky hatch.
