rear suspension 300D

Just got the 300D back from the shop. Had new subframe mounts, differential mount, rear springs and HD Bilsteins. I can't believe what a difference it made in the way it rides! I guess at 256K miles the old parts served their purpose. I would bet the rear end sits a good few inches higher now.

Mechanic said he had allot of trouble with the drivers side subframe mount. The bolt had frozen in the mount and he had to cut the mount out to remove the bolt. He also destroyed a spring compressor on one of the springs. I told him about the Mercedes specific compressor, but he said his other compressor worked fine. I guess the threads on the first one didn't hold up to the tension.

Anyways, I highly recommend the rear suspension rebuild!

What did that set you back if you don't mind my asking? My car's a bit of a low rider.

Tell us more

Was it expensive?
Do you have a recommendation on where to get the parts?

Mark

Well,

It wasn't cheap.

Parts were about $400
Labor was $550

I bought the parts online. Prices seem to be about the same at most places like Fastlane, ***********************, ***************. benzbin.com, etc.

You may have more luck than I did on the labor. That one frozen bushing cost me a few hours of labor. Plus, this mechanic is not familiar with Mercedes so maybe one that is could do it faster. It's definately not something I would have wanted to try myself, say, in the driveway with jackstands. But, the car rides so nice that it's worth it.

Now on to the front suspension!
