Bitter at all the "Pig" Benz's on the Road...

A "Pig" Benz is a Benz the owner doesnt appreciate.
S(He) does no maintenance, could care less about the car's heritage and lineage. I see them all the time on the road , unwashed for the last five years, the tire rims black with Brake Dust and with sagging shocks and Monster Stereo's and its a given fact that the car gets no Oil Changes or Maintenance.
The owners treat them like Chevettes or Pickups and put Plastic on Broken Windows,

Yet they last forever and I do meticulous maintenace and repairs on mine and thus far I have one bad engine, one dash fire, one bad ATrans, and one broken windshield.
WHERE IS THE FAIRNESS?

It's simple. A "pig" Benz owner won't spend anything on repairs. When it won't move under its own power, it goes to the junkyard and he buys another cheap car. No way will he or she ever read this board or go to any trouble over a car.

If you want to be a pig, junk your car sell your tools, buy a good Benz off a used car lot and run it into the ground.

I was thinking this was a thread about the other kind of "pig" Benz, the road hog. I mostly seen this kind of pig, the one who thinks they own the road.

I've been a bit of a pig with my car. It has some minor flaws that I've neglected to tend to.

However, I do wash it and regularly have the oil changed, and I check the air filter. I also used a can of diesel purge when I first bought it (that was almost 30,000 miles ago, when should I do it again?) and I had the glow plugs replaced about three months ago. Glad I did it too, now I can get up the hill right before my house without losing speed and having to downshift.

Whenever I find myself downshifting into third while I'm going uphill, and still losing speed, I smile, and think to myself "Man, I love this car."

It's also going into the shop for a front end alignment and an oil change this friday. I wanted to have the timing checked but I was told that the shop didn't have the necessary tools and I'd have to send it to a MB dealer. F that, I have like $800 to my name and I can't afford to pour it all into the car, no matter how much I love it.

Two things that I REALLY need to do, though, are replace the valve gasket and fuel return lines, because they leak. I admit that I haven't done a thing about it, but, as stated, I'm strapped for cash and since I have no experience with automobiles I can't afford mechanic's bills.

Hmm my 300SD isn't very beautiful...most people would probably think I am a pig becuase it isn't terribly clean (I wash it when it isn't raining...which is rare)

The interior is beat becuase I don't have thousands of dollars to recover/repad my seats.

The only part that shows all the time I pour into this ride is the engine (which you cannot see).

I am missing wheel caps (becuase I want to replace my wheels), I have mismatched tires, and I dearly need rear shocks.

Damn this post of mine is depressing!!!

Atleast I REALLY appreciate the heritage of the car and love the engineering behind it...I guess I am a visual pig but a true benz owner at heart

Mine looks kinda dirty right now too, but there is no point in washing it till the tree's stop shedding, I go out each morning and use my snow-brush to wipe endless maple helicopter seeds off the car, and cleaning out all the drains by the windshield and so on....I ocassionally have been spraying it down with the garden hose to keep the pollen dust washed off (makes it look incredibly dusty)....but otherwise I'm waiting for the tree's to quit. Everytime I spend an hour hand washing at the car wash....soon after I get home all the birds go land on it....(seemingly) and leave deposits. Sigh.

My rear door is also dented, but I can't afford to fix it, I just keep the interior as nice as I can at as little cost, and also under the hood everythings nice and perfect...where it matters the most.

I just spent 10 hours cleaning my brother-in-laws '87 300D. The car was original classic white paint over burgundy MB tex. Never missed a dealer service up to it's then present mileage.

EG's, I had a "food bag", a "papers/receipts bag", a "misc. junk bag", 2 bags of powdered concrete(that were punctured), two EXTREMELY filthy snow tires with wheels, cat litter SPILLED all over the inside of the trunk(USED!!).

I am a FANATIC at keeping my car clean and spotless. It was disgusting, and one of the worst experiences in my life! Also, the car needed 3-4 coats of wax before the paint started coming back to original brilliance.

My cars are kept spotless, so is my fishing gear and everything else I have.

Their are a lot of beat cars out their a lot of people don't care. I just saw a blue 300SE that looked like it hadn't been washed in 6 months. Slobs.

However my SDL is kind of dirty I just havn't had the time lately to keep it perfectly clean.

I will put 10-12 hours into it Friday and spiff it up for the show. I need to clean my door jams mostly.

There is something about a really flithy benz that I like.. it shows it in it's intended use.. a workhorse.

If you look at my E300 you'd think it wasn't cared about or maintained, I havn't washed it in about 2 months so it's really really filthy. I'm having a detail guy go over it on Friday for the GTG

fallacies

first, the unmaintained mb will fail always much sooner than the maintained one. second the bad things that have happened to you are not because you did maintain it, you probably just have a 20 or so year old car... most cars that age are long gone.

there is nothing like the feel of a well oiled machine.. mb, that is. you cant put a price on pride of ownership.

My 300D may not have the shiniest paint, or the cleanest engine bay, or the greatest sound system, or the lowest miles, or the least sqeaks and vibrations, but one thing is for sure, it's doing the job that it was intended to do, be the workhorse of the Mercedes-Benz fleet. Some 350K miles later, it's still putting happily down the road, taking me where I need to go in safety and reliability. Sometimes, the oxidation may get a little hazy or the door jambs may have a little dirt or there's a bit of oil on the carpet, but it's doing its job quite well.

"truisms"

Funny thing about a M/B with a 617 or 616. The vehicle will take a tremendous amount of neglect and still provide transportation. Neglect a Ford or Chrysler product, in similar fashion, and be prepared to be stranded in short order.

The reason that these "pig-Benzes" exist is a testament to the durability of these vehicles.

However, there is a world of difference in cost and time between a properly maintained 20 year old M/B and one of these vehicles.

Personally, I installed a new Zebrano shifter, and a replacement CCU yesterday in about two hours and was thoroughly enjoying the satisfaction of both of them on my trip to Connecticut today.

There is one of these W123's at school (out of maybe 4 or 5 including mine). It is a blue 1979 i believe, 300D, non turbo, with non fuctional glowplugs (watch him crank and crank away when the engine is cold), non fuctional vacuum locks, worn cloth seats, hanging headliner, creaky suspension (apparent when he goes over speedbumps, balljoints I guess? )and a dirty exterior. Im sure at least the body would clean up nice. It is a pretty sad sight.

Seems like everyone is forgetting that some people simply don't have the money (yes, even for a car wash) to be wasting on a Benz they probably picked up for $500 or just inherited after grandpa passed away. Indeed the MB is a very prestigious, elegant car but if you don't have the time or the money to get certain things done then you just have to keep them as they are. Additionally, given the great reputation these cars have for being very reliable while "needing nothing," I wouldn't be surprised if there are people out there who think they also don't need oil changes. Speaking of which, while I've always religiously changed the oil in all the cars I've owned and currently own, I didn't know why oil changes are needed until I had been driving for about 14 months. Regarding lack of maintenance, this applies to ALL cars. I remember a grown up man (probably in his 30s) with whom I was having a discussion on cars and I mentioned doing an oil change on my car. At that point he remembered that he hadn't changed the oil in his car for over a year. He said he simply can't seem to make out the time to take it to Jiffy Lube. I even have a friend whose daughter never changed the oil in her brand new car for 10,000 miles and the engine seized. The "pig" principle applies to all cars. These "pig" cars exist for different reasons. Of course, there are lazy and stupid people like most of you have described, but we also have to remember the less fortunate.
