Motor Mount Job observations for other beginners and 2 questions.
I just replaced the front 2 motor mounts. The driver side mount was totally destroyed and passenger side was not to bad.
Questions: 1. Driver side mount point is damaged. The motor was riding on the frame more or less and ate out the center of that area. The points to attach the mount were intact. What action if any to take? The only think I could think of is cutting a piece of steel and having three holes drilled and place between the frame and the mount. I didn't do this but I probably will if I change the mounts again. 2. I notice engine rotation on acceleration in park. This seems absolutely normal because this is what causes the vibrations with the broken driver side motor mount to subside on acceleration. This is just the moment opposite the rotation of the drive shaft. I assume this is normal but just want to check. Observations: Fellow Benz newbies. Take your car to someone who knows how these cars are supposed to be just so they can listen to it if nothing else. I let my car have its odometer fixed at the Benz store here in Atlanta. Not only did they have that fixed in under 20 minutes but they told me the motor mounts were bad. The driver side one was toast. I also did the air cleaner mounts which were non existent. All major vibrations and noise at idle are gone and the car is much quieter. As a matter of fact I have all new sounds to listen to. Moral of the story check your motor mounts and if you don't know what to look for find someone who does! The job is tedious. I recommend a swivel, the craftsmen 3/8 short ratch with adjustable handle and a 6 inch extension. The stubby craftsman ratchet was worth every penny of the $22 I paid to get to the mount attach point allen bolts(6 and 8 mm allen sockets in 3/8 drive also a must). Have fun
