fuel priming
Hi Diesel Guys. None of you know me and I am new to this forum and fairly new to Mercedes but I am not new to diesels. I have more than 40 years with heavy equipment and some of that as a mechanic. Ok, when I read that you crank this thing until it starts, even from Mercedes, I do not like it. There has to be a way to prim as least some of the air out and there is. Just think about brakes. If you take your brake bleeder and suck where the return fuel comes out of the filter housing and there it is. Perfect! I have not started it yet but I can see the fuel in the plastic fuel lines because I just replaced all of them and had the intake manafold off as well. I think it would work to buy a cheep fuel tank cap and drill a hole for an air fitting and put regulated air in the tank. About 7 pounds I think. I started to do this before I thought about the brake bleeder. I have transfered fuel from 55 gallon drums like this but you can not put too much air. They will bulge the ends. Not good for a fuel tank in the trunk.
It seems that the biggest problem I have is information. This fourm helps but I would like to have a book or CD in my hands. Next projects Transmission oil and filter in the 99 [165k] same fuel line job on the 97 [75k] try to understand error messages sell the 930 Roger |

Hmmm

You must have an OM603 = self prime. Year, make, model would help.
