Received my oil analysis results today for my SDL

I found out the other day Blackstone Laboratories was located just 4 miles away, so ROAD TRIP! Anyways, the test was done on my 300SDL with 255k miles now. I was running Mobil 1 Truck & SUV and had approximately 6700 miles on it. Here's the results:
aluminum 5
chromium 3
iron 54! (average=38)
copper=2
lead=3
tin=0 (hurray!) (tin would show bearing wear)
molybdenum=11
nickel=4
manganese, silver, titanium=0
potassium=19
boron=37
silicon=6
sodium=3
calcium=2902
magnesium=530
phosporous=1275
zinc=1635
barium=0
sus viscosity @ 100F=77.7 (values should be 66-75)
flashpoint in degrees F=445 (should be >415)
fuel %=<.5 (should be <2.0)
antifreeze %=0
water %=<.1
insolubles %=.4 (should be <.7)

These are the numbers as on the form. I have a hard coppy so I couldn't just copy and paste from an email. If you have anyquestions about values please ask.

Do you guys see anything I should change? He said my iron was high but that may be due to the fact that the car sat around for about a year since the PO bought a different MB while he still had this one. Also, I mentioned to him that my oil cooler had been bypassed and he said he didn't show anything that would be caused from iol over heating. He did say that the high iron could possibly be a result.

As far as the oil change history, I bought the car in Dec. of last year then I put Mobil 1 Truck & SUV in for 5k miles. I then changed the oil and filter and again put the Mobil 1 in but ran it 6700 miles, this is the oil that was in there then. Any comments?

Thanks
David

One more thing. What number would be the soot count?

Thanks

Just curious... Do you use any kind of fuel addatives??

What were the % figures for fuel, water, and coolant? (Look on the bottom of the report).

water and coolant were listed in my initial post. Both were 0%. However, sodium and potassium is where you look for potential coolant leakage. I use no fuel additives except 3 gallons of store bought VO and I've used 4 gallons of used motor oil over two tanks, so 2 gallons of motor oil to 21 gallons of diesel.

Thanks
David

Ahh, OK, I didn't see it there before.

My 300D does exactly the same thing. Potassium is higher than expected but not outrageous. Sodium is as expected. Glycol is at zero. It has been this way for 4 samples in a row. Blackstone has concluded that the potassium may be from fuel addatives, but I don't really think so because I don;t use much of it on this car. I may go look around for a voa on the oil and see what it looks like.

Nope, no potassium in virgin oil.

They don't seem to have provided you with the soot percentage.

It's an important parameter and I would ask them why it was not tested?

Everything else looks good with the exception of the iron.

Blackstone gives you insoluables in place of soot percentage. I wish they would change that, at least on diesels.

The guy asked if I use Red Line fuel service, I said no. We'll see what happens in another 7k miles. I'll go from there.

Thanks
David

They asked me the same question, but didn't seem like they actually knew what was in Redline DFC. In fact they offered to analyze the Redline for free just out of curiosity.
