Thumbs up Report on new Weathertech floormats in my 1982 300sd

Hey there,
After searching the forum I couldn't come up with any positive endorsement of the Weathertech brand all-weather floor mats. I went ahead and ordered them front and back. They turned out to be really nice. Great fit! Covers almost all of the exposed carpeting( 95%).

They mention having to trim them before installation which really turned me off initially. The trim you have to make isn't really for fit, rather to trim off a little excess flash from molding. Use sharp scissors. Turned out totally clean.

They cost $100 shipped for the set. Really well made; the UPS shipment was 18 pounds! Cheap insurance that my surfing habit won't destroy the 'SD.

Matt

I should add...

that the car is a w126 or 126 for any non-diesel folks searching for this topic.

Its a good addition to the car and really protects the carpets.

I've had a good fit and function from the Sears floor mats. In the past they have gone on sale for about $5 for a front pair.

Do you know what I miss? The old "coco" floor mats made of woven coconut husks or jute fibres. They were woven of some kind of coarse hairy string or rope. Very cool. For some reason you could only get them for VW and Mercedes.

I worked for MB when coco matts were sold in the mid-70s. Great when new. But it didn't take long for the jute to fray, leaving a napty mess in the original carpet.

I think the hemp is better left for your welcome matt, where you can simply sweep away the leavings.

I guess that's why they don't sell them anymore. I go back to the days when cars all had rubber floor mats and only the most luxurious cars had carpet.
