Bought new wagon today. NO SMOKE - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Well, I took the plunge today and bought a 1985 300TD that doesn't smoke a lick (that was important to me for some reason

) 211K
I wish I had bought this one first! Quite a difference between the '85 model and the '80 model. Especially MY '80 model. The turbo makes such a difference!! This wagon shifts perfectly, but does it aggressively too if that makes sense.

I've never seen a hood pad either. Big difference in noise.
It needs a few things:
hydraulics not working (I'm sure accumulators)
driver and rear passenger windows not working (rear has mechanical issues)
body damage---driver door and front 1/4 panel
leather interior horrible. Backs seats junk, front OK, not great, but soft
sunroof seems caulked shut, but headliner perfect! no sign of leak
wood around shifter ruined
AC compressor destroyed (and I live in TEXAS)

Bonus points:
No smoke of course is number one
runs like a scalded arse ape
actually has paint (my first one that does)
cruise works, if you can believe it
3rd seat
not even a speck of rust. Anywhere! Appears taken care of in past life
great headliner, OK carpet
front end is tight. signs of some pieces replaced
Texas summer friendly White paint

All and all I'm pleased to finally drive an actual MB. If my poor first wagon could just have its problem found I'm sure it will drive well also, but I just haven't experienced it until this one.

Still need to try and find smoking issue on '80 wagon, then it will have to find a new home. But it is odd, there is something that feels more comfortable being in the '80. It is just a "feel" thing. It rides great and is comfortable inside, just no power and smokes. Some day....

Congrats on the new Benz, and more importantly no smoke.

If I were a bit closer to Dallas I'd load up my craftsman tool chest and head your way to help make it look an ride even better.

if the windows have two failed diagonally from each other there is an obscure fuse that can fail. my shop has fixed this for me and i dont know exactly where it is i think maybe in the consol. not hard to fix when located.

I have learned a very valuable lesson, and I feel I should pass it on.
Make very sure to buy your next MB at "the right time". What do I mean by that? Well, this will be lost on you younger guys, but store this info away for years down the road.
We have a horrible week in our household, and it is the week BEFORE that most womanly of weeks that we are all too familiar with.

I did not consult the calendar, and I made my purchase, unpopular to start with, on about the first day of 'heck' week. Oops!

Besides this giving her a license to buy stuff for the house she was waiting to do, I got the harshest of verbal reprimands this morning, complete with two "a$$" words used. This comes from the most Christian of women who does not curse.

Yikes!
So, after said tirade, I cleaned three bathrooms, thrones and all, made the bed, folded clothes, made my daughter's lunch, and then, and only then, am I able to go out to the garage.

Live it, learn it, know it........

Jimmy, just because you got this new wagon does not mean you can quit working on finding the cause of the smoke in your other one...

Your new wagon is NICE. I have no third row seat in mine. The non-smoke news is good. We will all worry less now.

Your window issue is most likely the fuse. LF and RR share the same fuse.

RR goes down, it just gets hung and won't roll back up without help.
LF doesn't do a thing.

start with the switch, spilled fluids tend to find their way into the console switches... you can typically take it apart and clean the contact points.

your smoker might just need the vavles adjusted..

over time the valves tighten up and dont close as well.

but you might have already tried this...
