Self-leveling, hydraulic valve question
I have an 84 300TDT (wagon) with the rear self-leveling suspension system. I have searched all threads on this site regarding this system, and got a lot of great info. This past weekend, I disconnected the armature on the pneumatic valve that attaches to the rear tortion bar lever, and I moved the lever up and down, and the shocks raised up and down...so the system works. My question is this..... when operating this lever while the car is running and raising up and down, I feel significant resistance when it opens the "filling valve" (causes car to raise), and significant resistance when moving the arm back down to the lowering position. Should I feel very smooth easy resistance when raising and lowering the valve lever, or is it normal to feel these distinct positions of resistance.
I just dont know what this valve should feel like. And I don't know if I should consider a rebuild kit for this valve, or if it is operating properly. (The fluid was pretty crappy....I replaced with new Febi fluid, and put in a new filter.) Thanks, Mark
