4 spd tranny model no?

I need to carry out some repairs on my 4 speed tranny in my 1985 300GD. Getting parts and information on this tranny appears to be a bit difficult especially when dealing with outside vendors(ie not MB). So my question is this, what is the 4 spd manny tranny used in the 240D? The 300 GD uses a 717 202 that front the outside at elast looks similar to that used in the 240D, heck even teh gear shifter is the same.... Any help on this would be appreciated.

PS I scoured the archives but did not see any actual part numbers as far as the transmission is concerned.

What parts are you exactly looking for? The 4 speed TX 17 for 240D as well as 5 speed G-18 are manufactured here by ZF India and are used in various MB commercial vehicles.

While checking my U-joints I noticed considerable play in the output flange. There has been an oil leak around the output flange and so at first I thought it was just the seals going but now I think there must be a bearing starting to go as there is far too much play. There is also more noise from the driveline which at first I thought was u-joint related.

The reason I ask about the 240D is that the local repair shops only have access to information concerning NA MB sedans and nothing on the G(the G was never sold here so no surprise). If the tranny was used in the sedans I can hopefully get the parts/assistance I need.

The 4 speed is the same used in 240D except that the G had a different rear diff, the tranny is usually bullet proof but not when leaks are ignored, seals are not it's greatest strength, same goes for the G's T case as well, since Gurkha uses the same T case, I have had quite a few leakages from the T case.

The bearing should not be hard to find as 240D was commonly sold in US.

G-crazy

Have you tried tightning the nut on the output flange? I had one that was a little sloppy and tightning the nut solved the problem ..I had to make the "tightning tool" tho.

Hmmm, haven't done that, I guess I could give it a try, question is though, why would it be loose? That nut is staked in place right?
