I guess it's time for all of us to start pulling all those 80's MB out of our garages that we bought and stored 20 years ago

I wanted to bid on that car but found out thru Auto Check it was wrecked in 1992 in Ohio. The seller claimed to know nothing about wreck. I wanted to know what part of the car was damaged and the amount of the damage. I asked the seller what his explanation was of the reported wreck in 1992. I received no response. I did not bid.

I find it hard to believe that car is anywhere's nice as represented. Also, that same car was on ebay a few week earlier and was removed before the end of the auction, don't know why.

And finally my friend was going to buy another 300 Turbodiesel from that buyer. The car was on ebay and my friend offered to buy the car for $5000 if the seller took it off ebay and a PPI showed that the car was as represented. The PPI showed the car had more problems than the seller had let on to so my friend did not buy that car.

Something's fishy

No way would I pay that much for it. Also, if you look at the bid history...it jumps from $11,850 to $15,800??!! Something's up

The oil pressure seemed a bit low for a car of such "low mileage".
I'd be very suspicious of a car claiming such low miles with oil pressure like that. My '85's oil pressure with 238K miles runs at just a tick below 2 when fully warmed up.

I need to remove myself from the "long distance" car buying. Not that I have been burned "yet". I just believe it's inevitable. My favorite seller quote " AC works but needs freon". I always read this as "AC system is broken and we are not going to dump the money into this thing to get it working":

Sorry for the thread hi-jack - we will now return to your normal reading

I agree with DJ. Oil pressure is the first thing I noticed. My '85 with 240k has better oil pressure.

Guage needles are faded for something that has been tucked away all these years.

Probably right - but we may never no. The problem is it's so easy to (falsely) represent a car this way. If this car lets say had 300K on the clock but still looking nicely as it did but the seller stated new engine and transmission do you think it would have brought this much?

That's why I would rather buy a diesel 123 with 150-200K miles on her that I had some faith had been reasonably well maintained than one of these "peaches" with less than 80K.

Things that seem too good to be true usually are....

Every car runs different. As long as it is between 2 and 1 it's OK; mine runs at exactly 1.5 when fully warmed.

Agreed. Both of mine run exactly 1.5 at idle when warm, and my CD just turned over 132K. I've noticed that the pressure seems to be .002x the rpm, i.e. 750 rpm = 1.5, 1000rpm = 2, etc.. If you notice on that vehicles gauges the idle is a little low, and thus the oil pressure (IMO anyway).
