I am going to try to find a good running 220 or early 240 diesel engine to replace the one in my 1969 220d. What do I need to look for to make sure the engine I get will match up with my car and 4sp trans? Will certain engine numbers work and others not? Are there any "tricks" that someone might try to use to make the engine seem better than it is? I would appreciate any advice you could give me to make this as easy and hassle free as posible. thanks for your help. andy

Any 615.912(220D) should be a direct bolt-in. The 616.916(240D) engine is very close but might require a slight bit of changes. Both will bolt in & trans will work also!!
