300D Mount
My engine mounts on my 85 300D are nearly turned into jelly. I need to replace that. Besides the 2 mounts, what else should I replace while I'm at it?
Second question is, how do you replace the mount? |

Not an easy procedure to describe succinctly. Have you tried doing a search for "motor mounts"? Good time to replace the engine-oil-cooler lines while you have the motor jacked up and the mount out of the way.

Here's a link for you:
Click Here When you first come into the forum on the top you'll see STICKY'S. One of them is a DIY STICKY. This has a lot of useful information. It also has a link to the "Online Service Manual". Which is where I got that link from. I need to do this also though mine aren't quite Jelly yet. The hard part as I understand is aligning the new mount and the motor to get the bolts in without stripping them. A crowbar or length of pipe in the right place should get the alignment where you need it. Danny

Do the new mount comes with new shielding plate and those screws?
One thing I don't get. How do you "lift" the engine high enough to replace the mount? |

lift up hard!
just kidding... a jack with a large block of wood on the pan to avoid denting it.
proceedure it pretty intuitive... support motor with jack, loosen bolts in mounts lift motor high enough to get mount out, replace mount, lower motor repeat on other side. i think you have to reuse your old shield. also consider engine shocks at same time. it is easy to do later if you dont have them. also as bonehead says prob do tranny mount too.

I'm always pondering on the Engine Shock? Was is it used for, and how can you tell its dead? Do you need to replace the engine shock mount too, and how many are there?

i would second the oilcooler lines, just had mine done with motor mounts.
I had a cali 300sd and my mech didnt undo intake hose attached to the turbo and the 20yr rubber cracked in 2 when the motor was lifted. had to special order one from the dealer, only $30 luckily. if it wer expensive id just slid on a K&N filter directly to the turbo. |
