New car new problems please help

OK, so I was able to find a car for my mother in law (she wanted 300CD)
Life brought her 87 300D, my God the acceleration that the 124 has compared to my wife's 84 300D and my 83 300TD.

To make long story short we decided to buy her the car! We got the car from Napa in CA. It is California car. The cost of great paint etc was 5k$. So we felt that the car was a steal.

On the way back home ( I drove behind my wife who drove the new car) I noticed that every few minutes there is cloud of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe (this car had 0 zero blow by). So when we stopped to check it out my wife told me that she felt as if the car lost power somehow. This happened for about 1 or 2 seconds and power came back. What could be the problem?
I was thinking maybe a problem with the turbo that stops and then re-spool

Another problem is that the blower doesn't come through the central vents. Any advice what might be the problem?

Last one for today, the blower doesn't stop no matter which button I push. It stays on all the time; it changes intensity when I go from high to low to auto, yet doesn't stop. What should I look into?

Here is some more information that might shed light on problem #1.
The paper work that I got shows that the car had rebuilt IP about a month ago. There I found that there was a hole in the IP. I never knew that it was possible. The shop recommended valve job and 30,000 Mile service which the PO declined. I felt that we need to give this car some TLC before we give it to MIL. What kind of service would you recommend?

Thanks for your help
Yossi

carbon

could be the black tarry carbon build up in the intake and crossove is breaking loose and going into the motor. a piece might have wedged in a valve temporarily an d held it open. the crossover is realtively easy to remove and clean the heads are tricky to clean on the engine and i dont think any body has figured ou t how to do that at least that i have seen here. best solutio is valve job but tha t is a lot of $ prob 1500 + depending on the "while werre in there "stuff.
