W116 climate control problem

Here is what I experience..........everything works fine.....EXCEPT the air only comes out of the defrost vents and heat vents...which are default...

A/C works and is controlible, Heat is the same...only problem is no cortrol of dash vents. Any Ideas...I have been going through the manual to no avail.

Your car has the evil servo doesn't it? It's got about 356,452,670 vacuum lines coming from it to the inside. One has a leak. Good luck! :D

Oh what fun.. :( ..has worked perfectly since I put the Billet Aluminum rebuilt servo last year...in the last month vent control stopped..well since the get together anyway.

Car gets cold , fan works so it could be worse. At least I won't be sweating to death till I figure it out.

I've got a 84 123 being dropped off this week with no a/c and only blows on the defrost vents. I'm going to be pulling the dash and putting all new servo pods in it, possibly an evap as well. Sounds like you're going to be doing the same to fix yours.

Well I got it working.....not sure what did it though, thats the funny part.

Swapped Dash controls with my spare...still didn't do any different....about an hour of fumeing and brooding I dug around to find a dash bulb I managed to break put it back together then noticed the dash vent was closed....   .... then it started...I think somewhere along the line the problem was corrected because it was coming hard and heavy out of dash and floor...so how much was brain fart and how much was legit problem I can't tell. I don't feel like swapping the original back to find out.

John...in my case A/C was always working fine.compressor was coming on and blowing cold air....it was just how the dash vent controls were working that was flakey............got stuff going where it needed to go.

Youre absolutly right. This 123's got two seperate problems. I was trying to explain to him about it but he just said fix it

bone,
Before starting ,Turn off a/c switch, let vacuum build up (about 1 min.), turn on a/c switch, select function (button), wait about ten seconds.
Turn off a/c switch, then everything should work.
If you want a/c, turn on a/c switch.
These things are slow to respond, the little sinc motor has to sinc with the contoller.
At least this is what I have to do on my 80' 116.

Well I do have a very minor vacume leak somewhere....as the door locks only hold vacume for about 4 hours, then I have to do a stretch armstrong to get it open before the car is started.........my W123 holds it for days.

In any case its functioning now....Its a R134 conversion (like that when I bought it) so it gets cool but not icey.....once I fix my W123 A/C I plan to refit this one with R12.
