'80 300sd won't pre-glow if not used for a couple of days

I did a search but couldn't find anything about this subject. I have a 1980 300sd which I don't use as much now that I have the 500SE AMG but I still prefer it for running local errands etc. Anyway if it isn't started at least every other day it won't pre-glow. I can start the engine w/o it anyway and then the it'll be fine again until it sits for a couple of days. Thought it might be the battery but a new one hasn't helped. What should I look for? Thanks for any and all help.

I'd start by taking an ohm meter to each plug terminal in the glow plug relay box. Each one should measure 0.6 ohms. While you're there, remove the strip fuse and make sure it is in one piece and hasn't cracked and is making intermittent contact. This ought to take you about ten minutes. Then with these results, you have info to know where to go next.

fast glow plugs

i had negative experience with the fast glow conversion in my 115 diesel. they dont seem to last very long. i wouldnt ever do the conversion again. in fact i have a set in my garage you can have if you want them that i bought before coming to this conclusion.
