Pancake

Made by General Electric. It's commonly called a "Pancake" due to the shape of the motor. Old fans are like our diesel MB's. Very durable, and very mechanical!
Also, a fan such as that will bring as much as a clean 300TD. (and if they smoke, it's only once )

Here's one that would go more with a Fin-tale

I like that one too. I've got an old Westinghouse occillating fan from the 20's or 30's. Built like a tank and looks cool. I think it's good for a million miles. I think Westinghouse should give high mileage achievement awards for these old fans.

Fan of Old Fans

Dear Mr. Layton:

I like that "streamlined" fan - can you tell me the model and manufacturer?

All best,

DieselFitter

That is a Fitzgerald fan, probably circa the 50's and 60's. They pop up occasionally on ebay, but never ever in that good of shape. The body of the fan oscillates in between the base and the upper part. Very cool fan. Just a decent one on ebay goes for over $150-$200 bucks. A really nice one such as the one pictured could go $500 to $1000.
I saw a Holzter-Cabot sell for over $23,000 a year or two ago. Fun hobby/interest because you can collect fans for in between $5.00 and $5000 dollars. You can guess which end of that I'm on.
Go to this site and click on Fan 'Galleries' to view many different fans from many different fan manufactures. "Emerson" is universally recognized as the best manufacturer, but there are just so many great fans by different companies. (GE, Vornado, Westinghouse (runs counter-clockwise), to name a few.)

What kind of fan is the one in the picture second from the left? The one with the weird looking fan blades. I didn't know Westinghouse's fans turned CC. I've got to check mine out.

That is a radial axis fan. Commonly called a "Bank Tellers" fan. Bank tellers would sit it upon their work area, and the design would give them a breeze, but wouldn't blow their paperwork. Very rare, and always quite pricey. Probably from the 1920's.
