Really Dumb Question

I got behind a door panel on my 84 190D last night and discovered that it has a central locking system. I am reasonably certain that the 82 300SD also has central locking mechanism.

I have read the sections on central locking in the owner's manuals of both cars and there isn't a clue as to how they are activated. As far as I can determine, neither car has a "lock - unlock" button as one would have on a domestic auto so I assume it has something to do with the drivers door as master, but how?

We very seldom find occasion to lock the doors, but as a matter of curiosity, how does one activate the system?

Jim

Hey,
On my car you can either lock the drivers side door or push down on the drivers door button.
My system is activated by a seperate electronic vacuum pump/cannister in the spare wheel well.
It's controlled by a fuse in the fuse block that also powers the radio and time clock and holds the time and presets when the ignition is off.

Hope this helps you.

Danny

Thanks Danny,

If I understand correctly, it is then as I had assumed; the drivers door lock controls the rest. Guess neither MB has an operable system, another project!!

Thanks again,
Jim
