drains

are located in the corners of the gutter inside the opening. they frequently plug up and can often be unplugged with a piece of wire. kind of do a roto rooter.

RLeo has me scared to death over the sunroof drains on my '85. Problem is I can't get the sunroof open. The handle rotates, but I can't for the life of me open it.

You can see the forward pair with a strong light. The aft pair forget eye balling them at least not on my 85 TD. Pour a small amount of water on each side of the gutter and see if it drains. Mine drains (forward) near the A pillar post on the bottom. Aft drain goes all the way back to the bottom of the rear window. You could always attempt compressesd air with a nozzle vs sticking something in the drain hole that might hang up. I think that I read a post about that at one time. Best of luck. Hope this helps.

I noticed water leaking in from the back of the sunroof.
I blew compressed air back from the drain at the left rear wheel well. No more leak.
Eventually I want to take the roof out and clean them up right and lube the tracks but that was a good temporary fix. Maybe even permanent being how I procrastinate.

There is a vent behind the back window under the drip rail. You may find the bottom end of the rear sunroof draintube at the top of that vent. Do the rooter idea with string from a weedeater or something else that will not damage paint, etc.

Remove the drip rail by tapping a piece of wood or plastic lightly with a hammer. Tap it back on the same way.

If you live in the rust belt it is as likely rusted out as clogged. Rust repairs are documented if you search. Good Luck.

Looks like the hike is over. Hello from the library in Bryson City, NC.

if it isnt leaking dont worry. if it does you can always caulk it in with silicone.

Would love to see a pic of that area. I would like to get the sunroof open and actually use it in the non-summer months. I also need to get it open to check condition of said front drain holes.
They are OK on the smoker, but I would love to check the back ones, hence my first sentence.

i think that there are cables that pull it back and forth. these can get off the pully. i bet yours are. i dont know how to access them, probably remove the headliner and they will be outside the opening.

Do the manual sunroofs have cables?
Any talk of the headliner scares the bajeebers out of me.

When it rains sometimes I have water drool down the drivers side A-pillar when I am parked on a level or forward incline....I'd assume this is caused by a plugged drain in the sunroof? No water comes in by the sunroof itself. I think I will look into cleaning them all out soon and checking that....time to stop the leaking

In other news, our '83SD hit 260k today

Rear sunroof drains

Does anyone have a picture of where the rear wagon sunroof drains end up? I would like to run something up through there, and can't see anything through the sunroof opening rearward towards rear drains. front ones are in really good shape, thank goodness.
Still getting a lake in the backseat floorboard, drivers side.
My drains directly under the hood springs are clear, which seem to let water drip down to another level. Are there other drains under batt. tray on that side, and under brake booster area on drivers side?
Anyone have pics of these?
Was searching tonight and came back across this thread...

I hate to bump, but would really benefit from any help with the above. Thanks.

It rained a ton here last week, and it once again was drooling down the front driver A-pillar on the inside, both at the top and bottom (where the mouldings meet).....I really need to look in there to find the prob.....
