Save me some grief (cc vents)

It is actually HOT here in the North Country (an uncommon occurance). Which led me to discover that the force of the air blowing from the dash vents is weak (blower is functioning as it should). Defroster vents (at windshield) appear to be receiving most of the flow. Rear console vent has good flow, and overall, the car cools down adequately, but it certainly would be nice to have that cold air directed at me.

Before I begin tearing the dash components apart unnecessarily, for what may be an easy fix, can anyone give me any clues as to where to start looking for damper controls?

Thanks,
Jim

Steve,

Sorry, I should have been more specific, it's the 300SD.

Thanks again,
Jim

Jim, The best place to start is at the vac pod testing manifold behind the passinger side inner kick panel. There is one screw down about 3/4 the way unsrew that and work the panel off and the vac manifold will be right there, With a mighty vac test each pod from there, If they don't hold vac that shows a leaky pod.The action of the vac should activate each vent and you should be able to hear them open and close. steve 83sd

I'm also experiencing similar problems, haven't tried any of the test procedures discussed here and in archived posts because I don't know what a Mighty Vac is, is it some kind of super duper shop vac?

You can simply find anything by going to "google"

Mityvac

Cliff,

Typo there; Mityvac (or Mity-vac, not sure which) is a testing devise with a pistol grip squeeze handle that operates a small cylindrical pump to generate a vacuum (like a small tire pump in reverse). A gauge on the tool indicates the amount of / and or loss of vacuum. Find one at your local auto parts store for about 20 bucks. Amost a necessity when working on your MB.
