1981 300D Engine RnR - How to remove Torque Convertor?

1981 300D (Normally Aspirated)
Auto Transmission
Siezed Engine Replacement and Removal
Pics Attached

So, I've been trying to replace the engine in this car for nearly 12 months but I never seem to have the time. I'm planning on getting something accomplished with the extended weekend.

The latest hold up is the torque convertor. I removed the trans from the old engine and discovered the torque convertor. I'm concerned that I should have figured out a way to free the TC before removing the trans, that perhaps these two pieces are balanced in some way. Now that the trans is off, do I reconnect the way it was and try to free the TC? How do I free the TC - the engine is seized and I can't rotate it to get to the TC bolts. I am planning to use this trans with the replacement engine, so the TC will be necessary.

Thanks for your input.

Eric

Underneath the engine there is an open area that the flex plate bolts are accessed through. It is at the very rear of the engine. You may need a flexible socket to get them all out. There are three groups of two bolts.

You may have to flip the engine up on its face and do a partial dissassemble to get the crank able to turn to access all 6 of the TC bolts to the flywheel.

John -

Thanks for the response. Do I need to reattach the trans to make sure that they TC lines up the same way, or will it only fit onto the trans one way?

I had one like that that had a connecting rod sticking out the side of the block. I removed the crank to get the torque converter off.
