99 300d

Hi I am a noob looking at buying a 99 300d one owner, records, ...etc. The only doubt I have is that the car has 218K miles on her. Are the newer L6 diesel motors as reliable (or long lived) as the older 5 cylinders? I remember reading about the Al heads being weaker than the iron ones.

Are there any specific things I need to look for?

Thanks,

Don

The 606 is one of the best diesel motors MB ever made, 218k is nothing.

I would be more concerned about the rest of the car. Search spring perch, and "sealed for life"(trans)

W210's are great cars regardless of what some people say, with the diesel they are also pretty simple to work on.

The 606's only weakness seems to be glow plugs that snap off in the head.

Hi

I have a 201000 mile 98 E300TD Wagon, and she runs like a dream. If the one you are looking at has had regular oil changes all its life all should be fine.

Only thing you have to do is different is take the Glow Plugs out and coat all but the heater tips with anti-sieze.
