Dead AC in my 300D! ACKits.com is clueless?

On Friday I had a shop service the AC in my 84 300D. The charge was low and when they topped it off the compressor sounded like a blender with lug nuts in it. So apparently I need a compressor, drier and expansion valve. The shop doesn't like working on MB's. They sucked out all the refrigerant for me so I can hopefully do the work myself and then take it to them to have it charged. I called ACKits.com and asked for a price on the parts. They informed me that they only have the evap core for my car, no other parts. WTF? Many, many AC posts mention parts, compressors, etc. from ACKits so how is this possible. Maybe since I called on Friday afternoon? Any other sources for AC parts online that I should consider? Thanks, RT

Phil at Fastlane.... and if they don't have it.. then Carlisle Auto Air in San Antonio.. ask for Tray Carlisle... they have been doing this for 20 years.. I got my Tx valve, orings, R/D for my 240 from them... TCane introduced me to them... they also have P-condensors and Spal High perf Aux fans..

rwthomas1,

I thought you were losing it as I've got parts from them often, but when I checked their website............you're right!

I think you just got a Friday answer, because they carry the TXV and the compressor (same as a 300SD) for sure.

The R/D I thought was the same for 300D and 300SD (at least I never noticed a difference), but I see that FastLane shows a slightly different part # for each.

rw - you need to find a place that sells AC Delco air conditioning compressors - hopefully a wholesale type of place that sells to car repair shops. You should be able to purchase a brand new for your car for under $300. Make sure it is for your application because of the o-ring seating surface at the compressor. Go ahead and replace the dryer too.

Thanks for all the tips!! The problem with being up here in the great white north is if the AC dies in a car thats 5+years old no one bothers to fix it! Being in Texas I got used to seeing shops that specialized in, and thrived on AC repair. Up here, AC is a "extra, maybe we'll get around to it" repair. Anyhoo, I was hoping that someone in the "hot states" would point me in the right direction. I will be checking with Carlisle and Phil on Tuesday. Thanks again, RT
