What's this 1987 300D worth?

It's sitting outside of a pawnshop, and it has a busted out left headlight, 220,000 miles, and mismatched tires. From what I can tell it has mismatched tires. The interior looks good, but I havn't really been able to look inside of it. I havn't checked on any of the mechanicals yet, or to see that it has a #14 head. The asking price is $1795, which I am thinking that this might be a $1000 car...

I'll see if I can get some pictures, overall it looks good, the paint is still glossy, and looks like it may have been well cared for. The only bad looking part is the busted out headlight...

Worth?

The mismatched tires could be an indication (as well as the busted HL) that the car may not have been maintained well mechanically.

Even $1795 sounds very cheap. I sold my 87 300D a couple months ago for $5500, but then again it was in great shape. Mismatched tires are not necessarily an indicator of poor maintenance. Tires wear unevenly a lot of times, and people sometimes switch to another brand. I would say the busted out headlight is more of an indicator unless it happened recently.

I would drive it and see what you think. If it seems to run ok buy it, and if you run across some problems with it sell that sucker on ebay.

Even with the problems disclosed you should be able to break even.

What kind of paperwork comes with a pawnshop sale? Is the pawnshop in effect a used car lot? Or do you get the title endorsed by the defaulting owner?

The Pawnshop looks like it's a used car lot maybe? I've looked at a 240D on that lot before, and it had a butchered up wiring job under the hood...

Isn't a 240D one of those vehicles with a crank that sticks out the front?? No starter required??

If it needs a headlight, its a great excuse to buy a euro headlight setup offa ebay...and if the tires are mismatched then its time to pony up and buy a set of 17 inch AMGs offa ebay with matching rubba

Where are you located?
i'm intrested in that 300D.

I finally got around to talking to someone at the pawnshop about the car, and they told me to come back when the owner was there, but he did say that I could probally get it for way less than the asking price if I pay cash...
