210 chassis fault code P0180
I've been showing a check engine light off and on for the past few months, mostly on. The code reads as P0180, fuel temperature sensor A circuit malfunction. Dave was good enough to send me the appropriate pages in the WIS to troubleshoot the problem.
What I've got is a four pin electical connector and a connector cap. Test 1.0 tests the voltage of the fuel temperature sensor. I could not figure out how to run that test since the connector has to be connected, the ignition on and voltage read between two of the pins. There is no way I could see to be able to get my probes to read it. Test 1.1 tests the resistance between two live pins, one to the shutoff valve and one to the fuel temperature sensor. I got a reading of 1900 k ohms which I thought means 1,900,000 right? Acceptable reading is about 1800 ohms. A bad test here indicates trouble with cables/connectors. Test 1.2 reads the resisitance between the fuel temperature sensor and its ground pin. I got a reading of 1.280 k ohms which I think means 1280 ohms which would be an acceptable reading. A failed test here indicates a bad fuel temperature sensor and requires replacing the shutoff valve. Any help with interpreting these test results appreciated. BTW, I had to drill out glow plug #2 last fall which is right in the vicinity of the shut off valve. It certainly is possible that something happened to it during my struggle with that glow plug.
