Temporarily need a 40 mpg + banger--any recommendations?

#%^& I wish I hadnt tanked my 1983 240D! That was one economical car!
Meanwhile until I get my 300D finished, I need to get my hands on super small 1200 to 1400 cc banger for the commute to work which is killing me ...hopefully stick and no ac, just a chair with wheels.
Cars that come to mind are the Ford Fiesta and the Honda CVCC..anyone got any recommendations?

If it was a "Buy it Now" for $300, it would be mine. Crazy but true, bet I could pull a 12' set of gang mowers with that thing

The bid is up to $315 and the reserve is not met! Maybe $350!

Carrameow,

How about a VW TDI? You might even get 50 MPG and its German made/designed.

An old Rabbit/Golf/Jetta/Dasher/Quantum/Audi 4000 diesel should be cheap, easy to maintain and almost never return less than 40mpg. I've owned lots of em and they make excellent commuter cars if you're looking for bare-bones transport with few amenities, and can put up with a dash that rattles, groans, drones and screams at you.

Rabbit Diesel Pickup- you can snooze in the bed as long as you're not over 6'6" tall.

I am getting 49-50 MPG on mine in my 32 mile each way commute. And no GD black boxes- all mechanical like a 240D.

Look for an 89-91 Geo with a 5-spd and the small motor (underline small motor). Consistently rated over 45 mpg.

Not around here! I looked for a pickup for two yrs.
Some ran, others were way overpriced.
