Help..can't turn my key on?

I just went out to start my 81 240D and they key will not turn in the cylinder.

I went back and got my other factory key thinking that might help but NO-GO.

The keys have not been damaged and the key cylinder worked just fine this morning. I have not forced anything but tried firmly to turn the key on.

Nuttin... she won't turn.

Any suggestions?

Try moving the wheel back and fourth as you try to turn the key...

This has happend to me many times it usually freaks me out for a couple of seconds.

Had the same experience happen a couple of weeks ago with the TE. Ended up getting a complete new ignition switch assembly. Install wasn't too bad with help from the forum here.

A palm sander worked for me yesterday,I had to pull the gauge ass. to get at it right,If you can get the key to turn to #1 you can get your tumbler out.If you can't Do a search on tumbler,From what I have been told either replace the wheel lock as well or disable it so it wont work any longer.Good luck here are a couple links that helped me
