Bad Switch???
1984 190D 2.2
The belt driven fan clutch works off of an electrical switch or is supposed to anyway. My fan clutch will not work unless you ground one of the clutch plug terminals to something on the block. I let the car run for a while and it got to a bit better than 105C and I didn't hear or see the main fan kick in. The aux fan is working when the a/c is operating. I get normal temps while driving. I am an auto electronics dummy so I am supposing that the switch that sends the ground signal to the clutch is dead. What do you guys think? Kevin |

Well...
It got well above 105C...Well above! Not high enough to do damage but high enough to know it should have kicked in. The gauge is correct.

If the clutch engages when you jump the switch, the problem pretty much has to be the switch.

Just changed the switch...
NO CHANGE! The engine still climbs too high in temp and you can hear a lifter begin to tick.
