I understand their engines are not manufactured by Mercedes. Not sure of their repair record. A diesel SUV is appealling though.

Who makes the diesel for the jeep liberty? I've heard they're fine, but i'd guess the jury is still out since it's to early to tell. I still think Ford would benefit from putting a diesel in the new F-150.

Diesel is from Ford Argentina.

Greetings, my understanding is that Ford Argentina is the source of the diesel engine. My father in law has a Ford Ranger four door diesel in El Salvador with the same engine, and it pulls very nicely. His is a five speed, which I wish Ford could import to California. That would sell out for sure.

The engines are made by VM Motori in Italy. VM was acquired by Detroit Diesel in the 1995 which is now 49% owned by DC.

Just hope they are more reliable than the rest of the Italian offerings...

I have read some posts at the Jeep forum, but no major problems with this diesel so far. It ran smooth and was quiet for a diesel engine. It will fly on the highway, acceleration was better than my 300D. Most people are getting
25 MPG

This makes me think of Isuzu....

Remember their Little P'up Diesel? One tough little diesel truck that they stopped offering in diesel around the late 1980's. I work with a guy that drives his to work everyday and nary a problem. Check out the prices they fetch too on eBay.

Isuzu is barely hanging on in the US market. Toyota sells more cars in a week than Isuzu sells in a year here. Isuzu would serve itself well to offer such a little truck again with their diesel. I think it would sell like hotcakes and they would not zero competition in the small truck market with a diesel.

The FIRST question that I would ask about the engine is; "Does it have a timing belt or a timing chain?"

Good luck,

i bet you will find that the engine is a mercedes engine made to mercedes specs and in the family of the 320cdi with one less cylinder.

An inline 2.8 liter 4 cylinder Diesel???

That thing must vibrate/shake like a wet dog - I sure hope they have balance shafts or some other provisions for vibration damping.
