Need a 1993 300D opinion / suggestions / comments please.

That is the link on ebay. I test drove it today and looked at her inside and out.

I have only driven a 240d and 300d turbo. My 300d has so much more pick up! Are these cars supposed to be that sluggish? Heard something rattling when at idle a couple times; stuck lifter? But right when I pushed the gas the sound was good, also at high speed (~80 mph) sounded good.

Everything works interior and exterior, no scratches or anything.

Car does give a kick when changing to second and third, but fourth gear shift was unnoticable. Tranny needs some work? Modulator adjustment or replace tranny pistons?

Kelly blue book says $8000, but they are asking $11,500! Too much, right?

Cold A/C, that's what I really want, and cruise control is good. Both are broken in my 300D. I also want better gas mileage than my current ride.

Should I get a compression test done?

The car looks very nice. However, IMHO I would not spend anywhere near $11K on this car without a good inspection from a trusted independent mechanic. I would want to understand how much it will cost to make the car right (potential engine/trans work) and make an offer accordingly. You could fix the AC and cruise on your 123 for a lot less than $11K. Just my opinion.

me and my diesel teacher went look at a diesel suburban from this guy couple weeks ago. wants way too much money for his cars. unwilling to negotiate. very arrogont young little turd. his reserved price is usually $1000 below his buy-now price. i would never deal with this guy again.

A 2.5 turbo should be about as fast as an 85 300D.

I agree - he is asking way too much for the car. It looks nice but I would not pay more than 7-8K for a perfect 300D 2.5 turbo.

Yeah, I saw some scam reports from this business on the internet, somewhere. And then on the free carfax report link, it shows the car had like four owners. And only 115K miles? Makes me think there is something wrong, but it's perfect alll around and drove allright, like I said.

The guy there said if I wanted to get it checked out, there would be a $200 deposit. If the tests turn out okay, then non-refundable and can go towards purchasing the car. Bad on the tests, then refundable. So, if I'm serious about buying, then I should go ahead and get it tested. But I agree it's too much.

If I can haggle him down to $8K, then maybe I'll get it tested and be the owner of a W124! otherwise, I'll let her go. I feel like they're not going to come down.

I've driven a couple of these over the years. Always wanted one, but never found a decent example when I was car shopping.

The little 2.5 engine is really, really gutless when cold. Shouldn't be much of an issue in Texas during July. When warmed up it should run about the same as a 123 turbodiesel, perhaps a bit stronger once on boost.

That's way too much money, especially for a car with multiple owners/lacking documentation. Maybe $10K for a one or two owner car with a full stack of service receipts and a fully stamped maintenance book. Maybe. For this one, I'd say $8K, maybe $9K at the most. It looks good in the pictures, but digital photos can fail to show a surprising number of problems.

I bought one about 2 months ago and am happy with it.

I think u will have to hunt far and wide if u r looking to pay under blue book value. Diesels seem to command a price above blue book value.

Using rationale behavior, the seller wants the best price and the buyer wants a good price. The deal happens when both parties agree.

Get a carfax or equivalent report. Get a prepurchase inspection from a MB dealership or independent shop. That should give u a better picture on what needs to be done (be prepared to do more) and, what u r willing to pay.

The car is about 13 years old. Expect to be putting some time into it.

When u do buy one, I am sure u will have as much fun driving it as I do.

I have a '92 300D with the 2.5 turbo diesel. Has a ton of miles(240,000) but runs great, looks good, handles very European, and gets 32 mpg with 40 degree air blowing in my face! I just changed the transmission fluid it it was red and clear just like it had been put in yesterday. These are the best diesels in my opinion. Because there is a computer involved yours sounds like it may be a air-flow sensor or related problem. The computer needs to know when you have your foot to the floor and it tells by air-flow or throttle position? sensor. I paid 7500.00 for mine 3 years ago with all the work documented by local MB dealer. Ernie in Louisville

do a fraud alert to ebay and detail that fact....YOU are not required to leave a non-refundible deposite for a PPI you are paying for...
