Blackstone Oil Analysis 99' E300

Just got my analysis back. It seems as though I have a high iron content. Does anyone know what this might mean?

EDWARD: Universal averages show typical wear metals for this type of engine after 4,150 miles run on the oil. Your oil was in use 5,500 miles, and we found all wear (except iron) around average levels to show normal mechanical parts inside. It's too early to call iron a problem, since everything else looks okay. We'll watch it for you next time. It's from a steel part, and there are lots to choose from in this engine. This looks more like a 30W oil based on its viscosity. There was no fuel, moisture or anti-freeze in it. TBN = 10.4 showing loads of active additive remaining.

I will definitely send in another analysis from my next oil change.

Iron is found in cylinder bores and rings. Send in oil for analysis at your next change as a precautionary measure.

Blackstone Laboratories will do it for $20.

Here's a link to their website, it has everything you need on it, I have my free collection kit sitting on my desk at this very moment I'll be sending it in in a month or so once I have about 3k on my oil.

What oil are you running, and give us all the specs...

They thought I had a gasser

I called them and told them that my engine was diesel. Here is an updated report. It looks as though everything is fine.

EDWARD: This is an amended report to correct gas/diesel info. Sorry for the error! Now that we have your engine in correctly as a diesel, it looks better. Universal averages show typical wear metals for this type of engine after 4200 miles run on the oil. Your oil was in use 5,500 miles, and we found all
wear reading at average levels, showing no problems that we can see. The viscosity was a bit low for a 50W oil, but everything else looks so good that we can't say it's hurting anything. We'll watch it for you next time. No fuel, moisture or anti-freeze found. TBN = 10.4.

I'm going to chip my car now. Yee Haw!
