93 300D 2.5L Aux Fan

One of the two aux fans was not spinning at all (has 2 aux fans compared to one aux fan in the 87 300D model).

Unplugged the (2) horns (1 10mm nut) . Removed the bar that held the horns - 3 10mm bolts, 2 at the top and 1 at the bottom. I had to bend a bracket at the top to reach one of the 10 mm bolt.

The shroud is held on by 6 pins, 4 at the top and 1 in each of the bottom corners. These pins r plastic. To remove each, pull the middle pin out and ten pop off the expanded piece.

Pulled out the right side about a foot and teased the left side up and out towards the right.

The fans r bolted on brackets on the left (2) and right (2) sides and to each other in the middle (2). The bolts r 8mm, a total of 6.

When I unplugged the inoperative fan off the harness. I applied current directly to the fan contacts, still inoperative.

I took the fan off and behind the fan was a whole load of debris. The motor was full of twigs and dead inscets.

Took the fan to my workbench. Picked the debris out. Sprayed the motor with CRC electronic cleaner. Did that 4 times. Each time, I turned the motor upside down, lavishly sprayed the motor and all the insides. I then turned the motor 180 degrees and dumped out the fluid and all the gunk.

I also took apart the plug and sprayed it clean. Sprayed the contacts on the harness.

Tested the motor and it ran flawlessly! Saved $150.

While I was already there, I took off the other fan and cleaned it out. It also had alot of debris behind the motor. Cleaned the fins and removed all the debris I could see.

Fans and other components attached in the reverse order.

Note: the shroud has legs at the bottom that slot into holes. Make sure this is seated when putting the shroud back on.
