POR15 vs The rest
 

POR15 still the preferred choice for surface rust treatment? I'm working on the undersection beneath the radiator. Does anyone know what the heavy coating that's used on some new cars lower panels is called? It has a kind of finish like very heavy paint and deep orange peel. Seems to be tough as nails though. I wanted to rust treat this panel then paint it over with this stuff.

Not to hijack your thread, and I'm sorry I cannot answer your question, but where on planet Earth, chiefly East Coast of the United States, does one purchase POR15?????????

I'm very pleased with the performance of POR15.

Do a google search on POR 15. There are distributors all over. A main one in NJ. Al Smith Auto Parts in suburban Baltimore is another. Check the ad section of Hemmings, or Old Cars. If you can wait for a carlilse event, there will be several vendors there. Don't forget Hershey, coming up The second weekend of Oct. There will be a dozen or more vendors there that sell it-often at somewhat reduced rates

The advertisements for Hammerite paint sounds very similar, and they make similar claims, but Hammerite is much cheaper. Eastwoods list a similar product in its catalog--at a similar price. There is also a product called ZeroRust that is a lot cheaper than POR15 and some people like it better. After you read all the information, make up your own mind and buy the one you want.

I used POR-15 on the frame of my Triumph Tr6 during a frame rebuild\weld\fix the rusty thin British metal frame.
Great stuff - easy to apply, hard has hell!! After 3 years of driving the frame looks just as gloss as the day I painted it.

BTW it also stayed on my hands for about 3 weeks also. :)

Well, just for comparison, I am going to try something called rustbullet. It looks like it'll work and it cures via the humidity in the air, much like por15. I'm planning to use it as directed then apply a good coat of paint. This stuff doesn't need to be top-coated and is sort of silvery colored. It will also be subjected to nasty winter driving so next summer I sould know how well it works or doesn't. Check it out.

Yes...you found out too :eek: they weren't kidding to not get it on your skin, get a few pairs of Nitril gloves to wear ....unless you enjoy looking like you never wash your hands for a week at least.
