Need tips about selling my pristine 240D on ebay...pics

Hey guys.....

I am going to be posting my pristine 240D for sale on ebay. I just got it detailed today and took over 170 pictures. The car is esentially perfect but I have bought my dream car (190D 5 speed) so the 240D has to go.

Anyway... Is right now a good time to be selling a diesel mercedes ? Should I wait ?

I also noticed that most of the 240Ds on ebay are garbage and do not compare to the car that I will be listing. Any way to distinguish myself from those sellers....? I have tons of records for this car.. everything was done with the help of this forum so I kept all the receipts.

Any tips are appreciated... I will put the car at 1 dollar since I need it gone but is that too risky ?

I posted this in another mb forum hoping that a MERCEDES FREAK would take a bite as I would not like to see this car go to a person that has no clue about cars.

There may be a forum member who's looking for a car like this. Maybe give the forum folks a chance to make you an acceptable offer before you put it up on eBay...?

Like keeping it in the family.

Otherwise, I'd use the "Herb Phillips" model on eBay - he seems to have good luck.

I also have a complete 4 speed tranny from another vehicle.... every single bolt and washer necessary for the conversion including brand new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. When I mean every SINGLE BOLT I mean you will not have to get anything to make the conversion (just plug and play). Wondering if I should include that in the auction...

Specify in your auction what work has been done, how much it cost, the parts replaced, etc.

From what I've seen on eBay, the cars with the most info and the most detailed photos do the best. I believe there are limits on the number of photos you can post, so some people include links to their own web site with (many) more photos. I don't think there is any such thing as too much info when you are trying to sell (or buy) a car long distance.

I would also post links to the eBay site on this and other forums. I would set either a reserve or high enough starting bid to avoid losing out. You can always adjust the price later, or relist the car with a lower price if it doesn't sell.

I would list the 4 speed conversion "kit" as a seperate action because many people bidding on the car will not be interested in doing the conversion. I think you will do better with two seperate listings.

Would you mind letting us know what kind of $ range you are looking for?

Good luck,
Craig

$2750 FIRM. I am not going to be one of those people that say that the car will go 500,000 miles but I will tell you that this car has MANY more miles left on the engine and the tranny.

I did alot of work and have all the receipts... just off the top of my head

Valves Adjusted twice
BRAND NEW INJECTORS that were pressure adjusted
Brand New Full Exhaust
Brand new tires
Diesel Purged every 3 months
New Motor Mounts
New Tranny Mount
New Motor shock
New thermostat
Synthetic Oil (Mobil 1)
Hood Pad
Tranny Flush
Bosch European Headlights (from Germany the real deal)
New Fuel Lines
Fuel filters changed with every diesel purge done
Marvel Mystery oil put in with every tank of fuel
CD Player with remote
Pioneer front speakers
New Blower Motor
New Glow Plugs
New Glow Plug Relay
300D TURBO STARTER so the car starts right up since it is bigger
The car has caps on the doors and I had it professionally filled with special oil to prevent rust (should be done every two years)
Had undercoating done about a year ago
Leather seats DO NOT SAG (I am only 140lbs) very firm seats
Original floor mats
New Radiator
New Radiator hoses
Coolant Flush
Couple of new vacuum connectors
Took off intake manifold to clean out crud
Does NOT smoke
Rubber caps for jackpoints
Changed the differential oil with MOBIL 1 Synthetic

Oil change records FROM BRAND NEW in the Mercedes Booklet. This car was not neglected.

Probably plenty more but I just don't feel like opening up my folder and searching everything......( I have it all documented with paper proof)

I would not hesitate to take this car anywhere in the USA. If anybody is interested just shoot me an e-mail. I feel really bad for selling this car but I had to choose between the 190D and the 240D. Since I attend school in a city I need a smaller car and I do not want to get this one destroyed and would rather see someone else have it....if nobody wants it from here I will just sell it on ebay. I have many more pics.

.........oh...........damn..........if I just had another bay in the garage.............

I'd buy it at that price in an instant.

But, I can't see letting it sit outside.

That's a beautiful vehicle. Very well maintained.

$2750 is a steal I figured you could get much more out of that because of its condition and repair history. I can barely find used engines out here with questionable compression for less than 1000 bucks alone.

you guys think about it.... I am going to sleep for today and I will be very busy tomorrow so I might not check the forum but I will check e-mail.

If nobody takes it from here it will be on a 10 day auction on ebay starting Thursday so it ends on a sunday.

oh yes..
Anetnna does not work
Clock does not work but I have a new one (no time to put it in)
Rear passanger window motor does not work
A/C kicks on but does not blow cold

These are the biggest issues that can be solved cheap.
Thanks

why not try craigslist first??

its free, beats giving $$ to ebay.

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/

You will have to weed out the scammers and lowballers. But you'll have to do that to some extent on ebay anyway.

craigslist will host 4 small pics for you. but you should host all your big pics elsewhere.

your car looks good and I think its priced right.
