Junkyardin'?-Group Outing? MD,DC, VA

Halfway between DC and Baltimore on I-95. In Jessup.

Why I went today in 97 degree heat I have NO IDEA! Almost passed out luggin' 60 lbs of tools around, most folks there were sittin' around in the shade.

Anyway theres an almost untouched '79 SD, a w123 gasser coupe, and assorted other 123s and 190s. (and 'bout a million other cars)

Wondering if anyone would like to go this Sunday 07/31? (or actually most any day b/c I don't have a job)

heres the specs...

As junkyards go, I think its pretty poorly run, but the prices are good and they will break tires off the rim for free.

The place gets hella crowded on the weekends, parking lot fills up quick and people park on the street (rt 1) and then the police show up and give everyone parking tickets.

cheers,
RObert

What color was the 79 300SD, and did you see any Navy Blue W123's with a tan pinstripe?

Mister Byrnzoil 07-26-2005 09:49 PM

can't really remember

Today I spent most of my time looking for tires and on a working on a couple of hondas.

I looked at so many cars...the sd had a nice tan interior, mighta been black or grey exterior.

I don't remember a navy blue 123.

rockhopper 07-26-2005 09:52 PM

Just about any other weekend, I would...but this Sunday is not good for me.

Carrameow 07-26-2005 09:58 PM

Whatever makes you happy

I would go to and I am totally serious, and I have spent quite some time at Yards thru the years in bizarre places and doing some bizarre things, like taking a transmission out of a Volvo on a this day it was snowing but i wanted to get it done. I ended up staying until after dark...

Going to a junkyard can be a happy experience because you can reap gold for pennies, but it aslo the loneliest thing in the world. What if a car tipped over on you and you bought the farm and they didnt find you for a week...theres no great way to go, but I kind of think buying the farm on Mt Everest or with your grandkids around would be more pleasant

I have a lovely wife and she's so nice, she offres to come with me, but I refuse to let her ....

I'm game, just not this weekend.

d.delano 07-27-2005 10:42 AM

I may be interested, dunno what I need though. I might perhaps need some front seats. Might theoretically 'need' a spare turbo/intake. My car's in alright shape for the time being but I'm itchin' to go out and get parts anyway. I love junkyards.

mbonly 07-27-2005 02:01 PM

I wish it was in my area, the ones here are not that good and they never seem to have that many MB's, but I do love pull it yourself yards.

Mister Byrnzoil 07-27-2005 05:11 PM

Frankly, this place makes me long for the good old days...

the pull'n'save in east denver CO... where you could actually walk inbetween the cars, and you stand on concrete instead of a in a mud puddle, and they provide wheelbarrows for your convience, and they provide engine hoists... etc etc etc.

but OTOH, the cars here are much newer and much better quality, I guess its always a trade-off.

cheers,
Robert

How much in the way of MB's do they have?

Johnhef 07-29-2005 07:18 AM

Thres only one of the three I've been getting my stuff from so far, they have maybe only 10 mb's there, but have had just about everything ive needed.

I have yet to try the other two yet, sometime so I will.

Are any of you all coming up tomorrow for the GTG at my place?

Mister Byrnzoil 07-29-2005 08:14 AM

I was unaware of the GTG

I'm supposed to go sailing saturday, but if theres thunderstorms I'll go sailing on sunday instead and ditch the junkyard.

I still hope to...I have to wire a few circuits into a breaker panel in Dale City tomorrow morning and sell a car...but hope to get up there afterwards.

BTW....you see any Right rear doors for a W123 in navy blue with a tan pinstripe in your travels?

Mister Byrnzoil 07-30-2005 03:12 PM

I'm backing out

weekends are for SAILING!!

but I'll go again on monday or tuesday and as a public service I'll post a description of all the benzos that I can find.

If anyone want to go during the week I am fully down.
