My tachometer does not work on my 1983 300D Turbo, I have looked in the Hayes Repair Manual and cannot find anything on this? Is this electronic or mechanical driven. Thanks for the serious answers.

Ohhhh, I know this one! The butt trick: Remove the tach canister from the left fender well. Seperate the outter cap from the inner plug. Place a butt inside the cap and replace the plug, re-install on the car. Very simple.
The idea is that it puts more pressure on the back of the plug and helps the connections. You can also use a rubber garden hose washer or a piece of foam. I would clean all the connection pins and their sockets while it's outta the car. I also cleaned the ground point behind the instrutment cluster. Some folks here have also peeled off the silicone backing on the plug (you will see what I am talking about) and re-sodiered those connections. Good luck! This did not work in my case, but if it works for you, it is a great cheap trick!
