1984 300SD - White House limo! Transmission update/question
Updated. My mechanic changed the filter, checked the vaccum modulator..and it still slips. He says I'm having a problem with one of the clutch packs? Said its slipping before it engages I believe. Does this mean transmission replacement?

He also said that he could only get about 4.5 quarts in the transmission. His data told him 4.3. quarts. My manual said 6.6 quarts.

Try putting in the remainder of the what he didn't put in and see if it brings it up to proper measures to the full mark on the stick, then try it out. Got nothin to loose!

There's a drain plug on the torque converter, so maybe your mechanic didn't know that. Slipping into gear can be low fluid, valve body problem, clutch pack, and I'm sure a few other things. Replacement of the clutch pack(s) requires transmission removal.
