Does anyone know anything about 'DuraLube' Oil Additive. My brother bought me some and the bottle says it is approved for Diesel. I am worried about excessive leaking ... should I change the Oil immeadiately (Castrol 20W-50) or just keep adding the oil?

I would clean the outside of the engine and try to isolate the source of the leak before adding any additives.

Duralube

I don't recommend using this product on a diesel engine. I had high oil pressure on a v-8 gas engine and used it, and it dropped my pressure by 20lbs. It was good to clean out my oil gallies but wouldn't recommend it for a high compression engine such as a diesel. It will dilute your engine oil enough to cause it to blow by the rings and be burned in the combustion chamber. If you have excessively high oil pressure, it will bring it down, but I wouldn't use it to control any other problems than that.

Thanks for your input gentleman... as soon as it stops raining over here, I think I will change the oil and put some regular oil in there. I hear Castrol is the product to use...

actually.....no

I believe the consensus is to either use Shell Rotella, or Mobil Delo 400. Both are 15W40, and are indicated for use in diesels. If you find another brand, that you must use, make sure it is rated for use in diesels, as these oils have special qualities to deal with the extra soot inherent in oil burners, among other things.
Sometimes smaller chains will have a house brand of 15W40 too, and the local one in my parts, has it rated for diesels. And,...they come in handy 1 gallon containers, reducing waste and time spent opening a bunch of bottles.
Best of Luck!
-Larry

I incorrectly wrote Delvac, when I should have written Delo. (The Delo is dino oil) sorry 'bout that.

Oils on the market

I have been using Castrol 20W-50 up until now. I was told at the Benz dealership that it is probably okay since I am in California but a 15W-40 or 30 would be better. They also encouraged the use of synthetic oils. Any opinions on this??

PS: Thanks for the tips on Oil brands...

Castrol oil

If I am not mistaken, the Castrol 20W50 container does not indicate that it is suitable for diesels. There is no CG or CG in the circle with the SG or SJ. When I disciovered that, I switched.
