rebuilt and installed by PO

the PO of my 617 turbo installed rebuilt injectors and each one has the rubber band on it covering the original marking on the injector. Each one of these rubber bands has NA34X typed on them. what does this mean?? seems to me NA could stand for Naturally Aspirated and so therefore are the wrong injectors for my turbo??!?, hmmm. a good decifer would be great,
Scott

Thats pretty cheap. A far cry from the $250 I have seen other kits sell for. I would give it a try for that price. I bought some stuff from this guy. He doesen't answer emails and is a little slow on shipping. But the parts were good. If you have a question it is best to call him.

Ultrasonic cleaner

RE Jewelry ultrasonic cleaner and carburetor cleaner don’t try it my wife almost killed me when the carburetor cleaner melted her jewelry ultrasonic cleaner. I used acetone in an industrial cleaner and sent up such a fire ball the neighbors called the fire department I hope that is enough to discourage you from using flammable liquids in an electronic cleaner. I knew it was stupid and thank god I was doing it out back just in case or it would have blown the garage up and burnt the house down as it was I just got blown 2 feet in the air and 3 feet back. We won’t talk about the fireman’s response to a man with badly singed hairs telling them fire what fire sir. STUPID stuff makes me wiser the hard way though. I recommend just reading about such things and not trying them you’re self.

Thanks for the tip. I just got it for $38.79.
I'll put it in the Tool Rental Program as soon as I get a chance to use it.

MattDave,
Holy cow LOL
I guess I won't be trying that!

The MB service manual implies you need to add 018 and 013 needles to their kit. Looks the same for the Bosch kit, as 020 looks like the smallest in the kit.

Glad you got it for FAR LESS than MB's price.

I use endodontic (root canal) files/reamers to clean mine, but brass seems much better than Ni-Ti.

Yeah, I kinda figured I would need smaller needles.

I don't have access to this stuff. Any ideas where I can get some?
Maybe I'll just go to MB and get them.

Injector rebuild kits and test stand

Does anyone have a source for Bosch injector rebuild parts (kits) and injector test stands? I want to rebuild my own injectors and test/balance them.

Here's a thread with plans for a DIY injector tester. It certainly sounds like it would work, anyone made their own?

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=130074

I dunno if all the injector tests mentioned in the FSM would work with this setup, because the volume per pump might not be the same. But, you certainly could test opening pressure, and check for leakage.

I would be interested in sources for shims and other injector rebuild parts as well. Yeah, I know it will probably cost me more than $3/injector, but I just like doing the work myself.

Does anyone know what I should adjust injector pressure to in order to better run veggie oil? I know the company Elsbett modifies injectors for this purpose. I am getting an injector tester and would like to be able to do this myself.

I am guessing that higher pressure equates to better atomization?

On what car & 5 to 10bar

The make and model of the car you are referring to always helps. There is some debate on this matter but 5bar to a maximum 10 bar over the specified opening pressure is what you should shoot for. I would probably shoot for closer to ten bar if I was going to run strictly VO or WVO but if I had to run diesel from time to time I would stick to 5bar over the regular operating pressure. A question for you if you know does the company selling injectors for WVO or VO recommend changing the IP timing when you install there injectors?

The test stands come up for sale used on eBay every month or so they sell for up to $500. Right now, there are NO rebuild parts for sale on eBay I swear there are not any old stock German rebuild kits for at least a week so do not bother to check. LOL If you need shims I could spare a few

Yeah, right Dave- are you still high bidder?

I just got my pop tester completed and tested the injectors in my 300SD. I finally found 5 that matched, but they were all low- around 110 bar. I'll have to find some shims.

A couple of questions for those in the know..

1) Anybody have any experience with Monark nozzles? They seem to be going for just over $20/each . Are they German? (are they crap?)

2) Anyone try to use VW Rabbit nozzles instead on a non-turbo MBZ? Those are cheap- like $8/ea for Bosch. They look physically the same to me and have the same 115bar pop pressure. What's the difference?

Rick

Thought I'd bump up this post....I'm interested in anyone that may be able to offer advice on RS899's two questions.

Anyone got any info?

It just so happens I did win that auction and got a deal on all his sets plus the person he was buying them from. Good luck trying to find the shims in the size you need BOSCH only sells 2 size shims to the best of my knowledge which is no help at all. However, if you take your injector apart measure the thinness of the shim than use this formula you will come pretty close to getting the pop pressure you want.
For every 0.05 mm. increase in shim thickness, you get about 3 bar pressure increase.
0.05 millimeter = 1.9685039 thousands
1.96850 thousands of an inch = 3+ bar when you figure out the shim think ness you need PM me I will se if I have 5 close enough to what you require they cost me $2.35 each plus 35 cents to mail them I will sell them for the same price if I have your sizes. One thing though my computer is dying a brutal death and I cant get a new one until the first week in January so if this one finally dies completely I may be offline for a week or so.
