Is this the right part on fastlane? (rack damper pin)

I was searching under diesel injection on fastlane and I found a "Governor Idler Adj. Pin" Part # D2030-17407 This is probably the rack damper right?

A link: :EDIT: removed bad link.

It seems like that would be it, as its quite expensive  I really need a new one, is this the right one or should I just call Phil? I'm going to order it tomorrow, either way...

I just ordered one, along with a different style block heater setup, and a new breather tube to replace the hack job the dealer put on it, goodbye oil mess! :D I got the rack damper bolt for $52, excellent price.

Oh, I now have a normal block heater kit for sale, the standard one that goes in the freeze plug, I think I paid around $62 or so for it off fastlane a few months ago. (I'll sell it for $50 shipping included) I decided I don't want to attempt removing the freezeplug.

That looks like a great breather hose...How much was that????
Austin I need one too....

pawoSD 08-14-2005 10:57 PM

The breather hose was only $22! I was amazed!

Hey since you're there ...how do you know if your rack damper pin is Bad or just needs adusting...???
Did you ever talk to Matt?????

pawoSD 08-14-2005 11:05 PM

If the pin is good the engine should idle very smooth when its properly adjusted no matter what the temperature. If it is going bad you can get a variety of issues like the engine's idle becoming unstable when slowing down (mine began doing this a while ago) or when first driving the engine will hunt for its idle at stop lights going up and down and up and down (oil pressure gauge will bounce up and down too) The most noticeable and annoying symptom is that the engine shakes back and forth when the engine is idling when its nice and warmed up, a good pin should keep the engine steady no matter what. I tried fine tuning the pin for about 20 mins with the engine hot, and my pin does virtually nothing at all, plus my idle becomes unstable when stopping and the engine shudders and feels like its about to stall then it recovers...its getting very very annoying and is not pleasant.

Austin85 08-14-2005 11:10 PM

That's exactly what my engine just started doing like 3-5 days ago....
I was thinkingit was something to do with running the veggie oil, but hte oil gauge was jumping a bit and the engine was jumping....and looking at my engine mounts they look fine....
I'll try adjusting it...and if not I'll order one too...

You guys are lucky to have that pin there, on my 116 300SD it didn't have the pin so I was told to just live with the shake though it wasn't that bad.

Thanks
David

Whats the difference?

Is there in moving parts inside the rack dampener bolt? I'm just trying to figure out how it goes bad, why the brass one is better and why it cost $50 bucks. Thanks alot guys.

tangofox007 08-26-2005 08:51 AM

Yes, there is a spring-loaded pin at the end of the "bolt." The spring tends to loose its "spring" with age. And the gold version supposedly has a better spring.

Update: My new pin DID make a difference, but, here's the catch, I just went back to dino-diesel again 100% yesterday because I wanted the power...:D(and the B20 station is 10.3 miles away, regular station is .3 miles away) No shake, at idle or in Drive, at all. It seems to only shake on B20, which is weird. It did used to shake on either dino diesel or B20, but the new pin calmed the shaking on B20, and seems to stop it altogether on diesel. It runs so quietly and smoothly on the Premium diesel I got yesterday, even moreso than on B20....perhaps the B20's cleaning properties cleaned it out good since I ran 2 tanks through, then went back to straight diesel (full fill up, over 18 gallons).......

I got a rack damper pin from Performance Products for $37.00
No offense to Phil and Fastlane, but the price difference was significant enough.
I ALWAYS check Fastlane and if it is even close go with them, but sometimes $ is $

Here's what the Bosch "made in Germany" damper bolt looks like compared to the old bolt.
The new bolt is gold.
It has much stronger spring action.
