Exclamation Does anyone know where the Klima relay on a 85 300D..

Does anyone know where the Klima relay on a 1985 W123 300D is located, as well as the other relays for AC. I am tired of crawling under my dash in this weather. Thanks!

I'm not sure on that one Richard, but, all of the other Klima relays are located under the hood, between the firewalls on the W126. On the SDL it's on the driver's side. On the SD, I think it's on the passenger side.

You got problems with it??

Hi Brian!
Remember I am rewiring my dash..when I hook the brown white and white wire for my Tach up, the AC cuts out.

Yes, you need to find the Klima. It uses the tach signal. But, I can't understand why connecting the tach would cause the a/c to fail. Unless the tach is shorting the signal in some way.

BTW, does the '85 have a serpentine belt or does it have the standard V-belts??

I might be in error regarding the tach signal for the Klima. I'm not sure if the Klima would need to monitor compressor speed if the V-belt is utilized.

On my 85 TD it's on the fender well directly in front of the fusebox.

Thanks. Then, I wouldn't think the Klima would monitor compressor speed in that case.

could be similar to 300TD???

Hello Richard,
as Kerry Edwards stated in my '85 td the Klima is inside a little black box mounted to the back of the tranny vac mod directly infront of the main fuse box cover. this is inside the engine compartment right next to the brake booster. hope you find it there. as for the Klima for you '85 D here is a link to the Klima http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1LB0NB9F61LB0NBLI2&year=1985&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=R&part=A%2FC+Relay

Looking at the pins in that image:

Upper row left to right:

GM+ = engine rpm
VL = WOT switch
87K = AT kickdown switch
[gap]
KL = compressor signal from PBU (ground?)
[gap]

Lower row left to right:

31 = ground
[gap]
15 = +12V
87 = compressor clutch
[gap]
[gap]

probably a short in the Klima that shorts GM+ to KL to cause your problem. you can take the Klima apart and re solder to see if that fixes it or take it apart just to inspect the soldering. make sure no solder has run to cause this short. good luck

got all this info from Sixto when I was trouble shooting my Klima a couple of months ago. he knows a lot more than me.
hope it helps
Scott

You can consider yourself fortunate in that it does not.

for you insatiables

Adam,
fortunately, your '84 has an ice cube relay instead, i say fortunate because they are more durable, cheaper, and simpler. it will be inside the black box on the driver's fender well. there will be more than one. I think on your car there will be two. one is for the compressor relay and the other is for the auxiliary fan relay, that's the fan in front of the radiator. you can figure out which is which by getting the fan going and unplugging the ice cube relays one at a time. don't worry this wont hurt the fan. it could damage the compressor relay if the compressor is running so do this test only when the fan is running and the A/C compressor is not.

cheers
Scott

Sorry, I could not resist. Earlier I read a post that mirrored the above statement. It required several readings to finally understand the question.

I have a copy from the Mercedes CD set regarding Type III ACC in pdf format. It's about 2 megs, not sure if this message board will allow me to post such a large file. When the service manuals came out on CD's, quite a bit of information was omitted. Mercedes corrected this on the version 2 CD's.

Possibly this could be useful to you. Alan
