Glow Plug light came on while driving

On usual morning commute, the glow plug light came on for about 2 minutes and then went off. A few minutes later the light came on again and stayed on for about 10 minutes and then went off and stayed off. While it was on, I jiggled the key with no effect. When I had parked, I ran the switch through the on-glow-start cycle several times with no problem.

The relay is about 6 months old -- a Behr. All wiring to the relay looks good. The key switch is a used one that I put in about 8 months ago. It seems to operate OK.

I do not know if the glow plugs were actually receiving power when the glow plug light was on.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

When mine did that a few years ago it was due to a bad relay.

There have been a few reports of this being associated with washing the engine. I guess water gets in the relay case somehow.

I believe that your Glow Plug Relay is about to go bad.

If your glow plug light stays on, you will end up with a dead battery.

When I went through this last year, I would plug in the Glow Plug Relay plug to start the car, and unplug it after I started it.

I called the process "The majic diesel ritual, known but to few". Good for a few laughs until I bought a new GPR and fixed it for good.

I had this on the smoker last year, and it was a bad glow plug relay.
