Red face Tranny mount snagged and has caused a domino effect of problems.???

Yes, my transmission mount was snagged from the transmission. The previous owner or mechanic had the wrong one on and it rattled itself loose apparently. Thus snagged when it should'nt have. Obviously causing my transmission to sag about 6 inches or so. There were 3 nuts for the MOTOR MOUNTS missing?????? The block bolt where Exhaust Manifold should be secured, and the two Mount bolts directly under the manifold connection were also missing. Hence, the motor hit up into radiator busting the top seam.

Well, new radiator, Battery, Fan, Fuses, Nuts for mounts, and of course a compatible tranny mount. All in place properly. Yet, two weeks after the repairs, it starts running a tad bit hot, overheats once, shuts down when driving on the highway (70 mph), two times: one week a part. The second time it shut down I pulled over and noticed smoke coming from the front right fender. The origin of this smoke is unknown as it lasted only a few seconds. As i start her up it seems as though she is starving for fuel. Then on the return trip home the fuel light comes on: ran out of diesel twice before (first time the light turned on). I might add I had just serviced the fluids and diesel. Still running, light still on, and acting sluggish. Oh, yeah my starter is getting tired, as well.
Is she a gonner???????
Hey, what can I say I am a girl. I did participate in the repairs. Tool Girl.

76' 300D
Sorry, I am stressing out pretty bad, I knew I was missing something.

fuel filters changed recently? Is coolant level correct? Help us help you by listing your vehicle year and type in your signature.

Filters not changed since I have owned it (2yrs). Coolant is perfect. I knew there was a problem and had a bad feeling. This all happened 60 miles from home in CO. SPGS. location of Salim's Silver Star Automotive. Just did'nt make my destination in time.

When you get a little time, peruse this forum for "preventative maintenance" items (such as oil and filter change, fuel filters, inspecting belts and hoses, etc). Most items can be done quite easily and will increase the dependability and enjoyment of your car.

Cheers,
Wes

At the top of page, click on User CP, then edit signature. This signature will be automatically added to every post you make. General location helps too, as ambient temperature affects a lot of issues. A 76 300D is nice and simple - that's good. When you change your fuel filters, look into diesel purge and also check the condition of your primer pump. A leaky one can allow air to get pulled in. It's pretty easy and cheap to replace. As for the overheating, are the radiator and fan "new" or just new to the car used? Because used ones can be great or terrible and look the same.

I grew up in the Garage with my father who was a master English mechanic (MGB). All "Preventative Mainenance" is mostly under control. I can change my own oil, figured out how to do the job on my own. This is done on the regular basis that it should be done. I just put on two new hoses about two months ago as I noticed they were bulging a burst. I have inspected the belts, in my trunk lies two new belts awaiting their turn (which will be done very shortly). I know nothing of a diesel fuel system, from what I understand they are complicated. Involving numerous filters and such.
Thanks for checking me.

O.K. The Radiator was pulled from a used shelf as well as the fan. The fan looked brand new. As for the radiator, it looked new but I think you could be right. The day the radiator was replaced it did run a little to hot and spewed some coolant stuff, not much but enough to diagnose I guess. How do I check for a leaky primer pump.
Maybe I should also mention my small Injector Leak.
I am thinking about scrappin her and getting a 115-Euro model I know of about the same as my current BENZ. It is priced very, very, friendly.MMmmmmm
Thanks A Lot for your info,

How to check your hand pump

All you need to do is unscrew the handle and start pumping if any diesel comes out while your pumping its bad! even one drop!
To change it you need a ratchet,Long extention, and a crows foot wrench (I think its 17mm)

Replace it with the new type pump and all you have to do is push the pump when you change your filters. here's a link so you what the new one looks like.
