300SD warning lamp and brake question

I think that these are related.
I have a light on the dash that looks like a circle with 3 dashed lines on each of two sides. What is this warning lamp for? it flickers occasionally.

I was told by the shop that inspected the car that the pads and rotors on the front were bad. I looked and the pads have worn the rotor down probably 1/4 of an inch or more and left a lip at the edge of the rotor. Is this normal, or is there another issue I need to look at. The pads look ok, except they are in the groove of the rotor.
I have the rotor and pads, but I have not seen anything like this before.
What else should I check while doing these breaks?

thanks
Doug

Brake sensor touching the rotor, usually from pad wear...

Yep, sounds like the warning light is telling you to check your brakes.

M-B rotors are generally worn enough that they are changed with the pads.

Measure the thickness of the rotors, and if it is less than the M-B specification, replace them. They are not terribly expensive.

Best Regards,
Jim
