1986 190D questions

I am looking at buying this car. It has a couple of issues that I want clarified before I commit.

It vibrates quite a bit at idle. It is worse when you turn on the A/C. As it revs above idle the vibration goes away. Could this be a motor mount, A/C mount???? or something worse????

Another question is about a red light on the dash. It is not the brakes, battery, oil, wiper fluid, etc. It is red with no picture on it. On the right side of the dash...???

Another issue is that the defrost blows hot air when the a/c is on.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

I am no pro, but I had to change my motor mounds becuase it was vibrating at a ridiculous level. A good way to check if the problem is your motor mound is to put it in reverse, then drive. If the vibration stops, exhange your motor mounds.

Check The Vacuum

I start with the vacuum going to the heater valve. If there is no vacuum then check the vacuum to the control unit. I think it's behind the glove compartment on that model. If you have vacuum at the control unit then you problem is in the vacuum control unit or the push button control. I've changed a few vacuum control units it was about 100 bucks.

On my 84 190D

if the red light to the right of the steering wheel is on, the drivers seat belt is not.

Good luck,
Jim

The vibration may be caused from a number of things: I would recommend that you check motor mounts as well as the motor shock, also this may be an idle adjustment issue. It seems that when you put a heavier load on the system at an idle it drops further, thus causing more vibration. Change fuel filters and check your idle speed is what it is suppposed to be at.

Be aware, 190D's are like cheap tractors with vinyl seats and a roof.

Have fun!
