300sd toasted?

Recently an oil cooler line broke on one of our diesels. The car was shut off before it seized and still would turn over. We replaced the line and drove about a mile before realizing that there were much worse problems. The car only had about 4-5 psi of oil pressure and sounded like some bearing somewhere went bad. What and where might this be and is it worth fixing?

Didn't you have a 300D that was toasted? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=125101

The same thing applies to the SD.
Bearings are not costly but the surfaces on the crank and connecting rods and of course the cylinder walls all have to be renewed, resurfaced and sent out for nitriding in some cases. All of this work entails many tens of hours of labor and you better have an experienced, capable shop do the work or its not likely to last.

If the engine is making knocking or grinding sounds the easiest and usually cheapest solution is to swap in a good engine from a wrecked car.

I would work your way from the simple things back up.
What oil are you using?
Filters?
What is the condition of the oil pan?

Just give us some basics that you know before we get into the internal issues.

My 300SD went through a similar situation and still runs okay.

There is also one on craigslist for sale here locally.
Also a friend of mine is selling his w116 body 300SD I think.

(he was asking so very little for it...something like 500-700?)

I will see if he still has it. Its a running car.

The 116's have the best engine without all the EGR crap. So get it if possible.

Thanks
