Need Help on Oil Change for 1993 300D

The other day I replaced a broken antenna mast using information from this site...which I might add was accomplished in record time and no mishaps. Today, I need to know the steps to changing the oil in the 93 300D. Never have owned a diesel before and since this is not a primary transportation car, I have time to figure this thing out step by step. Thanks for the help..I appreciate.

U need to remove the bottom panel, held on by 4 10mm screws. There 2 sets of panels - one under the engine and the other runs past the tranny pan.

If u have just acquired the car, I would suggest u leave the panel off for sometime. U will then be able to detect leaks better.

The oil change is then standard - remove oil cap on cam cover, remove oil pan bolt - drain, loosen bolts on oil filter ....

The oil pan bolt is 13mm - tighten to 25Nm.
Oil filter bolts - tighten to 25Nm

You can also use a topsider, an oil pump designed for Marine applications, to suck the oil out thru the dipstick. The same method is used at the dealers. There are those who will say its a god idea to remove the bottom panel and perform an examination of other components (steering arms, bushings etc.) while the oil is draining. I was skeptical also but I have now changed my opinion, I believe the suck-it-out method is not only easier and quicker and gets as much maybe even more oil out of the pan. There is always about a quart of oil left in the cooler and cooler lines so its impossible to remove ALL the old oil so it probably doesn't matter how you get the oil out its the convenience of the Topsider that I like.
